Visciolentino with Gentian
New!
Strengthening the Apennine origins of the product, looking for the best vegetables at higher altitudes, integrating the sweet sour taste of Visciolentino “Classic”, we created the new Visciolentino “with Gentian”.
A well-dosed harmonious note of vegetables bitterness, typical of gentian root, which is combined with the scents of the “Classic”.
A unique and captivating combination of taste sensation that, in the name of Love, will envelop your senses.

The history of the sour cherry
To pinpoint the historic origins of the Sour Cherry, we must go back to the Mithridatic wars between the Roman Republic and Mithridates VI°. In that period an epicurean aristocrat, Lucio Licinio Lucullo, planted the “prunus cerasus” the delicious fruit that we today call “sour cherries”at his villas in Castelli Romani and Naples.
In Umbria there are several trees on the border with the Marche, in Valnerina and also in the upper part of the region. This species of sour cherry is particularly rustic and suitable for high hill and mountain areas. Although small in size this vigorous tree, irregular in shape and spread out with overhanging branches, blooms late in April. The juice of the sour cherry is an intense red and is characteristically acidic. It is rich in antioxidants which makes it a precious extract suitable for fruit preserves, jams, flavoured wines and infused liqueurs.

Sour cherries and St. Valentine
Our family has always had ties with St. Valentine. In the1970’s, we moved from our village to the hillside above the basilica of the patron saint of Terni.
I remember my parents had a pantry which was always full of good things all year round for them to prepare delicacies with complicity and passion. This was the incentive to continue their magnificent love story. So when we used to go to the basilica to pray and search inner peace, some of our produce was always offered in blessing, especially the sour cherry liqueur.
From these wonderful memories the name “Visciolentino – Sour Cherry of St. Valentine, Liqueur of love” was born, in homage to lovers and my family.
